Patient Testimonial

I want to thank you so much for figuring this hormone problem out.  I am really beginning to feel like my old self.  I knew something was wrong and I'm so excited to feel great again.

What are Bio-identical Hormones

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for hormonal imbalance.  The difference between bioidentical hormones and synthetic hormones is that bioidentical hormones are a custom fit, designed to fit your needs after evaluating your hormonal levels and deficiencies and the symptoms these imbalances have created.  They are an exact match, molecule for molecule, to the hormones produced naturally by a woman’s body.  They fit the hormone receptor just like a puzzle piece, and the body cannot distinguish between a bioidentical hormone and the hormones it makes naturally.

While bioidentical hormones are developed to have the same molecular structure as your naturally produced hormones, synthetic hormones are intentionally different.  Drug companies cannot patent a bioidentical structure, so they invent synthetic hormones that are patentable, generally in a one-size-fits-all dosage regimen.  With bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, a program will be specifically designed to meet your needs, based upon your specific hormone levels and symptoms.

There are three major types of hormones used in bioidentical hormone therapy:  estrogens, progesterone, and androgens – like testosterone & DHEA.  Depending upon many factors that we will discuss you, a selection or mixture of one or all of these hormones may be recommended.

The goals of Bioidentical HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) are to:

  • Alleviate the symptoms caused by the natural decrease in production of hormones in the body.

  • Give back the protective benefits which were originally provided by your naturally occurring hormones.

  • Re-establish a hormonal balance.

In our practice we have experienced tremendous success in improving patients’ quality of life by converting over 90% of our patients previously on conventional hormone replacement therapy to bioidentical hormones.  An individualized approach is utilized by initially obtaining hormone levels (a so-called “hormone panel”) and a symptom profile.  We then prescribe a precise dosage of bioidentical estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or DHEA through a local compounding pharmacy.  Each patient is then monitored carefully through regular follow-up hormone panels to ensure we achieve symptom relief while maintaining your hormone replacement at the lowest possible dosage.

Hormone related symptoms or problems are the body’s way of signaling an imbalance or deficiency.  These symptoms may also indicate of underlying metabolic damage from poor nutrition or stress, and can include:

  • Fatigue

  • Cravings for sweets or carbohydrates

  • Weight gain

  • Hot flashes or night sweats

  • PMS

  • Feeling depressed or overwhelmed

  • Mood swings or irritability

  • Insomnia or restless sleep

  • Headaches

  • Loss of sexual desire

  • Fuzzy thinking

  • Digestive symptoms or problems

  • Muscle aches or joint stiffness / pain

  • Anxiety

  • Heart palpitations

  • Breast pain

  • Urinary dysfunction

  • Hair Loss / dry skin

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Irregular periods
